The first step to becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is to complete a nursing assistant training program from an accredited college or university. Programs take between one and six months and are held across the nation at:
- Community colleges
- Vocational schools
- Technical colleges
- Nursing homes
- Hospitals
- With the American Red Cross
These programs will require at least 75 hours of training, including at least 16 hours of “hands-on” training. To find out where you can start classes, check out your state’s CNA registry online or call them for additional information. You may be able to complete some of your training online.
